Trip Highlights
Everest Three High Passes Trek is a challenging trek that combines three of the most iconic mountain passes in the world. It is considered the ultimate trekking experience in Nepal. In addition to offering breathtaking views of the Himalayas, it also allows trekkers to explore the Khumbu region and its rich culture. The trek is a great way to spend a week or two in the Khumbu region.
Everest Three Passes Trek begins from the mountain town of Lukla, which is a short flight from Kathmandu. This trek is designed for those with some previous trekking experience and for those who are accustomed to high-altitude hiking. During the trek, you will pass through high mountain passes and glaciers. The trek is particularly difficult, and involves steep ascents and descents. For this reason, it is not recommended for first time hikers.
Three passes can be tackled in either a clockwise or anti-clockwise manner. Regardless of which direction you choose to go, the trek offers beautiful scenery and amazing views of the Himalayas. However, the route is very difficult to navigate without a good guide. Fortunately, a skilled local guide will be able to help you on your trek.
The Everest Three Passes Trek is best experienced during the spring or autumn season, when the weather is clear. In addition, it is less crowded, making it easier to find a place to stay. You can also extend your trek to visit the remote Gokyo Lakes. For this trek, you will need to buy a passport and obtain a permit for 5390 rupees.
This trek will lead you to several valleys, as well as the highest point of Everest, which is 5,555 meters above sea level. During your trip, you will also visit the monastery village of Thame, and the Buddhist Sherpa settlement of Marlung. The trail also includes a few high mountain passes, including Kongma La, Renjo La, and Chho La. This trek is especially popular for adventurous travelers, and is the ultimate way to see the Himalayas.
Aside from the beautiful scenery, the Everest Three Passes Trek also gives hikers an opportunity to experience the culture of the local Sherpa people. Traditionally, trekkers will be able to sleep in local tea houses for free, as long as they eat in the guesthouses as well.
There are many other options for trekkers, as there are several villages to choose from along the way. For those looking for the ultimate challenge, you can also do an extended trip to the Gokyo Lakes. You will need to spend about four to five days on the trail before reaching Lukla. In order to make the trek as safe as possible, it is advisable to use crampons and ice axes.
The trek requires a lot of acclimatization. You need to be physically fit and experienced. As you ascend higher, the temperature goes up, and you might encounter some snow. In the lower sections of the trek, you will also enjoy rhododendron trees. During the trek, you will see prayer flags on the mountains and throughout the trail.
